This is an excellent opportunity for a great candidate to join an established and growing company. Hyland Precast Inc. is currently seeking a Shop Supervisor to join our team in Cumberland, BC. This is an expanding role with growth opportunity for the right candidate.  This is a full-time position with competitive wages and an excellent benefits package.

Hyland operates three divisions; ready-mix concrete, manufacturing of precast products and aggregates and is based in the Comox Valley and serves Vancouver Island, Gulf Islands and South Coast.

Shop Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • Precast Shop Supervisor is responsible for first line supervision and leadership for the production process and operates under the direction of the VP Operations.
  • Organizing the distribution of work and monitoring progress toward production plan objectives.
  • Ensuring products exiting production meet quality control requirements.
  • Plant and yard safety.
  • Performing production duties – this is a hands-on labour position and will include spending time on tools.
  • Customer satisfaction.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe workplace for employees, contactors, and visitors.
  • Works with sales employees to encourage solid customer relationships from a production perspective and provides input on job estimates when requested.
  • Plan and coordinate work activities to meet deadlines.
  • Review shop drawings for materials, errors, impracticalities and resolve by interacting with Engineering, QC, Project Coordinators, and /or customers.
  • Interpret drawings for efficient, safe production procedures.
  • Optimize production resources to ensure efficient and safe plant operations.
  • Meet production deadlines.
  • Supervise line employees’ work quality, productivity, and attendance.
  • Organize personnel for daily operation of precast concrete production and yard loading of products.
  • Oversee deliveries of products to customers.
  • Maintain a tracking list for materials consumption on a daily basis.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of production.
  • Provide leadership to precast crew, creating a safe team environment.
  • Participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and activities.
  • Host daily safety check-ins.
  • Weekly crew attendance sign-off.

Education and Experience Requirements:

To be successful in this position you will be reliable, self-motivated, disciplined, take ownership for your work and have a good command of the English language to provide clear instructions.

  • Experience in precast industry and / or manufacturing 3-5 years
  • Experience running a crew in a construction or manufacturing environment is a preferred asset.
  • Minimum 2 years reading drawings
  • You have held a supervisory role in the past.
  • Thorough knowledge of structural precast concrete processes and assemblies
  • Eye for quality control/assurance and safety from start to finish.
  • Comprehensive understanding of concrete forming tools is an asset.
  • Familiarity with forklifts; forklift ticket an asset.
  • Proficiency in reading plans.
  • Familiar with Construction and Shop Safety guidelines as per WorkSafe Regulations
  • First aid certificates an asset.

What We Offer:

  1. Full time: This position is Monday to Friday (start time varies seasonality), but generally is an 8:00 am to 4:00 pm shift.
  2. Wage: $30.00 to $35 per hour based on experience.

We are seeking applicants for  drivers  to join our team in Cumberland, BC.. These are seasonal, full time positions with competitive wages and an excellent benefits package.

You bring to the table:

  • You must have a Class 1 or 3 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement and a clean driving abstract.
  • 2+ years experience including operating a manual transmission.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with previous concrete experience.
  • You are energetic, highly motivated and possess good communication skills.
  • Knowledge of concrete and the construction industry is an asset.
  • Willingness to work additional overtime shifts outside of regular schedule
  • Clean and current driver’s abstract
  • Fully vaccinated as per provincial Covid-19 requirements in the hydro sector
  • Proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.
  • CSTS-09 & OSSA Regional; BSO or Common Safety Orientation certification an asset
  • Having First Aid, H2S Alive, Ground Disturbance, certification would be a significant asset

Hyland is looking for precast labourers to work in our precast plant. This is a full-time job, paid hourly.

Job Description:

  • Hyland Precast Inc. on Vancouver Island has openings for full-time Precast Labourers. Our primary location is in Cumberland BC.
  • You will be responsible for assisting our experienced workers while helping to maintain a safe and clean work-site. This position has the potential for advancement to forklift operators, crane operators, and some carpentry.
  • We are looking for a versatile, flexible candidate who is eager to learn, can follow instructions carefully and can work independently to complete tasks to deadlines. You will be punctual and reliable, safety conscientious and a problem solver. You will report to the Precast Shop Foreman.
  • You will need your own transportation.
  • Physically able to stand, walk and lift materials for long periods of time. Comfortable working outdoors.
  • Previous precast or concrete experience an asset.
  • Job may require some longer shifts or seasonal weekend work.
